Oliver Richards Putting Architects First

Final Campaign Thoughts

In campaigning for RIBA presidency I have been delighted that many architects want the RIBA to prove relevance. The RIBA needs to change its culture, offer real support to members and have a ‘voice’ on the big issues such as planning and procurement. RIBA must stand tall, collaborate and fight for architects – looking outwards and not self-interested. I want to direct the RIBA to be relevant to all members. I hope that you share my aims and will vote to give me the job of doing just that. Please do pass on recommendations to your architectural friends, directing them here www.richards4riba.com and to my twitter profile @ORichards_Orms.

Oliver’s Manifesto

I am first and foremost a practising architect.

I founded Orms in 1984 having worked for Lasdun, Farrell Grimshaw and Terry Farrell. Orms has now grown to around 45 people. So I have set up and run a small- to mid-sized award-winning practice for 30 years with built work across Europe. I know that architecture is difficult to do well and that collaboration is essential.

Endorsements for Oliver

Oliver Richards has emerged as the RIBA presidential candidate who will certainly get my vote. His campaign hits exactly the right note that the RIBA needs radical change if it is properly to serve its Members and consumers. He was Vice President responsible for Education at the RIBA, and this experience will be invaluable in revolutionising the system to deliver a more flexible and appropriate model. Oliver Richards biography

I founded Orms in January 1984 and am now co-owner of the practice with John McRae.
In these 30 years there have been a number of waves of varied activity for us – HQ buildings, retail, loft living, the reuse of buildings, health clubs, commercial buildings and education. I have been closely involved with the full range of projects which we have undertaken.
